New Ghostface

New shit, new shit!! Just got the new Ghostface; it's a banga! Seriously, the wu may not be relevant to the young youth no mo, but yo, cop this shit. The DOOM tracks are especially good, but the album's solid all around. Whoever thought these two would hook up? Pete Rock handles beats on a few too. Trife shows up on a couple tracks and he's decent, in a chino xl kind of way, I had no idea. The skits are funny even. Those circuit city bitches had it for 7.99 but were sold out. Best Buy's got it for 6.99, less than the price of 2 cracks. Oh, the pic's from all4gta.com.ru...crazy fuckin russians.

Wiki-Rock

I ran across the Rock in the ole Wikipedia here, and found that the detail leaves something to be desired. It is currently in "stub" form and if you go there you'll note that Wiki would like some folks to help expand the article. I thought who better than us? Besides perhaps Jasper's Dad.

Well I made the shift to Linux, and man I've had to battle some buyer's remorse. It has become painfully clear how ignorant I am about how computers do what they do. Sometimes I just want to go back and undo taking the pill that allowed me to leave Microsoft's oh-so-convenient world, however I don't quite know how to undo things in Linux yet. D'ah well the steep learning curve does go to reinforcing my suspicions that too much convenience is no good for a person. Makes 'em stupid and easy to control. Anyway I hope to have enough skill to administer the league from my computer this season. I'll keep folks posted.

Ok, after 5 lifeless games, last night I finally saw the Sabes do some of the things that made them great to watch this season. It was a shootout loss yes. The Sabes were up 2 to start the third and could not seal the deal, granted. The Sabes did for the first time in 5 games play with honest-to-goodness passion and even a little desperation, and I prefer to take that as a good sign.

Get Off the Bus

I learned yesterday that my new job starts August 1st — three days after the bar exam. That means that my planned trip to the Havasupai Reservation is off.

This is where Jasper will not be going.

You know that feeling you get when you realize you got on the wrong bus? This is not what I signed up for. I’m real tired of the world where this is a reasonable expectation, where people talk about their friend on the judiciary committee, where (as Joni Mitchell says) people are standing in the center, giving to get something.

I was feeling OK as of 7:00 though, I had my magnum bottle of wine and the Sabres were playing the Rangers, so it would be on my local MSG channel. But, for reasons I still don’t understand, the game wasn’t on TV. The channel guide was wrong, and the Sabres went on to lose in a shootout.

I saw the Neil Young concert film Heart of Gold last week. It’s the premier of an album he recorded two days before going in for risky brain surgery. A guy about to die sings about exactly the things you would expect: his favorite guitar, the best dog he ever had, and his time back home.

Everytime I think about
Back Home
It’s cool and breezy
I wish that I could be there
Right now
Just passing time

Damn Neil Young, you’ve always been my boy, but that is just about exactly right; what I wouldn’t give for a beer and a smoke up on the old Urban porch.

Why did we think this was private?

But, as Pilon up in Tortilla Flat would say, this is not a poem. The Sabres play on NESN tomorrow and I think I’ll buy a bowling ball. Any advice on what to look for?

So I guess my point is, fuck you world. If four superbowls can’t crush my spirit this Ivy league alienation isn’t going to make a dent. I’m going bowling this week, and I’ll watch a hockey game, and the Buffalo Diaspora will shuffle forward.

HRCs got that crazy shit...

1) We all know the White House is the rock house and Uncle Sam is the muthafudgin pusherman. But does Hillary really have her own ghetto bird?

Like Carl Spackler, I have to laugh, really. While it's really fun to think about Bill putting on the camo and night vision specs for a late-night buzzing of KT's house the better target for the imagination is to figure out how to export this ineptness to other state GOP parties.

2) Randy Newman's album Sail Away = Amazing. Also, I found a copy of Cheech and Chong's Big Bambu album *with the original rolling paper* still inside at a local Chicago record store. Score.

3) I expect to be drinking vodka gimlets in the Twin Cities with Nate within the next 48 hours. The proper local authorities have been notified.

SI SE PUEDE!!!!

Hundreds of thousands took to the streets in Los Angeles to protest House Bill 4437. If you want a little bit more of a read you can see this thing line for line right here. This hot political issue for 2006 will bring the war on terror to the "homeland", helping to take some of the focus away from the war in Iraq.

The most eye-catching part of this bill is the part about the big-ass fence that is going to run along the border. The estimated cost of the fence is over 2.2 billion dollars. If we build a good-enough wall it can become a great piece of world history. The entrance can be a big arch with the words Gateway to
Freedom.

As the 2006 elections draw closer, we'll keep a watch on guys like Tom Tancredo who our friend Jasper may get to meet in a few months. Make sure to check out the immigration reform caucus.

On a lighter note, get ready to donate in the name of science.

Next Stop Tucson?

The weather is warm and the golf is cheap. I'm about to storm this place like James K. Polk.

Adam Morrison gave us a moment out of Free to Be... You and Me. His squad may have had an epic collapse, but we now have the new diabetes role model in America.

This is some good stuff. If you havn't put some Sweet & Salty Nut to your lips, do yourself a favor and take a bite.

Start toon-ing in to this blog

I can never post any pictures. The photo posting works about 5% of the time for me. How can I make a post without a picture. I need to type the html to put up a picture. Well, I cut and paste, but it's more steps than what I should be doing. That's ok. Why doesn't anyone ever write on this thing? Jasper! where have you been? I found this slideshow of Jasper working the back allies of Souix Falls. this may explain why he is too busy to post. I'll post on Fridays and Mondays for sure. Everyone pick up some days. I want some good shit to read.

Who here has watched the Oblongs? Introduced to me by Jess, I like to kick back with a High Life and watch a show that could take place in Buffalo. They live in the Toxic waste that pours in from the burbs. Power lines all around them. The dad, voiced by Will Farrell, is a honest hard workin guy. The mom is a raging alcoholic. That show is funny. Which brings me to a question that can start some chatter: What is the best cartoon on TV today?

Yo, If anyone is looking for a job in Buffalo, go to Buffalo.craigslist.org. Eastern hills mall is hiring people to wear Easter Bunny costumes.

Greetings from Auburn Avenue

Mang, it's been a while.

Here's the heroic political statement of the week, with its not-so-unexpected consequences.

In the past I haven't liked the fact that the arena gets packed with leafs fans when the golden oldies come to town. This season has caused me to view the situation from another angle. To watch the Leafs put up such a spirited effort and still lose in front of 5 or 6 thousand Tonto faithful was real satisfying. Watched a nasty little skirmish break out at Pearl Street after the game.

Can it be that it was all so simple then?

I've been strolling down memory lane a bit myself lately. It's amazing what you forget after 18 years. Take more pictures, the shit is dope...

1 day til Vacation!!

Big Apple here we come!!! I know it's 2 days away but I'm fired up. It feels good to be headed back to the Empire State.

I really got going after I saw Beasties on Letterman. Most musical guests don't throw down like the Beastie Boys did on Letterman last night.

Then I read the Caps spot about the mix tapes. That had me jumpin and pumpin my fist. It took me back to throwing some maxell's in the recorder to catch what was being spun on WBNY. I remember how some punk friends of mine went down there and stole a 40. I sipped that shit like 3 years later. I think it had been sitting cracked open in the fridge the whole time. It was that or orange extract.

Let these memories light a spark. It's on this weekend.

It's FRY-day

Today is the first Friday of lent. For those of you going to hell, lent is a time when Catholics fast to remember the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert fighting off temptation from the devil. While most people believe the fast is an abstention from food, the church defines the fast as a dietary discipline. Part of this discipline is to eat beer battered fish with a side of slaw on Fridays.

Our local eateries have thrived off of this tradition for years. Catholic or not, growing up in Buffalo meant eating a fish fry during lent. Fish fry Friday was as inexpensive as pizza night and good for us too. Not only was there fish, but also potatoes, vegetables, and fruit. On a diet of fried food, the lemon wedge is a fruit.

Our eateries thrive on this time of year. A great fish fry can make a bar or restaurant. As the snow begins to melt, we come together once again as a community and celebrate being Buffalonians. Sadly, our way of life is under attack. That's why it's important to get out and eat a fish fry today. Buffalo needs each and every one of us. I will be sending money home to get a fish fry for me. My personal favorite fry is at Casey's Tavern.

Oh Dip! Spring Cleaning!

Wow, St. Marv is cuttin' fools like Homer Simpson.

Can't say that I blame him though. Mismanagement over the past 5 has left some gangrene throughout the roster in desperate need of amputation. I still think that the Bills could have gotten a year or two more out of Milloy with a better D-line, and speaking of which, I gotta wonder what the plan is now that the brewer and patriot is gone. Adams takes with him any credibility the interior D-line might have had. This could really be a bumpy ride next season what with the uncertainty surrounding the CBA.
