Damn right

Alright my first post. Well i've had this disagreement with Dr. Sack for quite some time now. See I like funny people and to me there are few people as funny as George Carlin. I know he can be a bit on the preachy side. And I also know some would dismiss him as crude and vulgar. But he was always trying to make you think just a little bit. Look beyond his infamous seven dirty words routine. You will find he would and could take on any topic. Be it religion, war or even soft boys names. Goodnight sweet prince. You will be missed.

Smell the Glove

Micheal McKean = Genius

The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin'
That's what I said
The looser the waistband, the deeper the quicksand
Or so I have read

My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo
I'd like to sink her with my pink torpedo

Big bottom, big bottom
Talk about bum cakes, my girl's got 'em
Big bottom drive me out of my mind
How could I leave this behind?

I met her on Monday, 'twas my lucky bun day
You know what I mean
I love her each weekday, each velvety cheek day
You know what I mean

My love gun's loaded and she's in my sights
Big game is waiting there inside her tights, yeah

Big bottom, big bottom
Talk about mud flaps, my girl's got 'em
Big bottom drive me out of my mind
How could I leave this behind?

My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo
I'd like to sink her with my pink torpedo

Big bottom, big bottom
Talk about bum cakes, my girl's got 'em
Big bottom drive me out of my mind
How could I leave this behind?

Rushdie, knighted

Very glad to see Salman Rushdie receive this prestigious honor. I read The Satanic Verses some years back, and found it to be one of the most rewarding novels I have ever read. It is intricate and beautiful, and remains one of the few books I would like to re-read. With the complexity of Rushdie's story, as well as his unique blending of languages, you will discover something new with each reading.

I was also fortunate to see Rushdie speak at the University at Buffalo. He was engaging and entertaining. I was astounded that anyone could possibly want this man dead. Then again, I am not exactly a scholar when it comes to the tenets of Islamic Fundamentalism.

Esoteric

Perhaps I have ascended to a higher plane of nerdiness, or perhaps I have stumbled onto something awesome that is worthy of mass appeal. Either way, I've spent the better part of the past few work days listening to video game soundtracks. It's that time of year when sports talk struggles for subject matter. I've got to fill the void somehow. Yesterday, it was Final Fantasy VII, composed by Nobuo Uematsu. Uematsu was with the series from it's inception, creating some of the most memorable tunes.

Today, Chrono Cross, composed by Yasunori Mitsuda. I think this track is stunning. Mitsuda also composed the soundtrack for Chrono Trigger, which is frequently referenced when fanboys and fangirls get down on VG OST debates. I'm looking to check out his Xenogears jams as well.

Castlevania has always had spectacular sound and music work. Symphony of the Night, compliments of Michiru Yamane.

For those who prefer old school, there is always Koji Kondo. Kondo is responsible for the single most famous piece of video game music ever composed, the Super Mario Bros theme. He is also the man behind the music of the Zelda series. Impressive resume.

The problem with this newfound interest is that the soundtracks are often extremely expensive. The popularity of game music here is minimal, so they must be imported. It's unfortunate, because there is much beautiful music to be heard.

Rambo

Saw Rambo last week...lot's of cheese, buckets of blood, all in all, pretty good. It's what you'd expect anyway.

Draft Action

The Sabres select two Tylers, including the next Zdeno Chara? That's a big dude. Byebye Dmitri. As of this now, Max is still on the block. Any takers?

Bug Friday

Greetings. It's Friday, and I'm looking up some info on bugs. Here's a solid pro-bug resource. Looks like people send in pictures of bugs, and they tell you what they are. Some guy recounts his run-in with a house centipede. Somehow this dude saw one and didn't kill it. Amazing!

Japanese bug fight.

All those legs wriggling around make me want to vomit. He handles that tarantula though. Even so, I can't see advocating the continued existence of such creatures in any form other than gummi.

On the Lighter Side

I watched some Mitch Hedberg on Saturday. I'm very quick to dismiss stand-up comedians, but this guy had me at hello. It's ashame he's no longer with us.

Here's a nice piece by the NFL Network.

Blindness

Everyone's favorite punctuation-deficient novel becomes a movie. Can't wait.

Gov. Pegs New Spokesman to Tell Children's Story

This guy just keeps getting better and better.  Since taking office, Patterson has

  1. Made public his former taste for cocaine-fuelled extramarital liaisons at budget motel chains,
  2. Recognized Adam and Steve's right to tie the knot (available in CA, MA, offer not valid in some states)
  3. PARDONED SLICK RICK!

I can't wait to...ahem...see what's next.

Guilty Pleasures

Damn you Rob Thomas. I know Matchbox 20 is terrible, but I can't help wanting to sing along.

Maybe it's just because she was smoking hot, but this song is kind of awesome. I love that bodysuit. Local H gets down.

These last guys are another story. It's guilt pleasure not because I think they're awful, but because I'm so far from the band's demographic that it seems incongruous for me to like them. I don't own a marble notebook full of Marilyn Manson quotes.

When their last album came out, it was very well-received critically. This prompted me to give it a listen. I am glad that I did. It was easily one of my favorite releases of '06. It's difficult to pick out an individual song, because the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. It's one of those discs that you have to listen to in it's entirety. It's a great concept album. The lead singer looks, dresses and acts like a complete tool, but don't hold that against the music.

Break It Down

I always have to respect a band that knows the importance of a good cowbell track. Can't get enough of this song:

Once again I'd like to send out a big FUCK YOU to Universal Music Group for disabling embedding. Every time I find one of these, I will be sure to remind all our loyal devotees how much they suck. Universal Music Group should fire their marketing team, because they don't respect the value of positive publicity. Perhaps if someone saw a video on our little blog, they might like it and buy a cd. Unfortunately, that won't happen, because Universal is run by out-of-touch douchebags.

Instead of another funky track from The Rapture, you get this:

Patience

Nintendo DS is soon to become the home of the Dragon Quest series proper. Wins, you'd better pick one up.

After countless Final Fantasy remakes across several systems, it looks like we will finally get some Dragon Quest remakes. I've been waiting 15 years or so to play the SNES games that never made it stateside. I've tried to play the patched ROMS, but it never quite worked out. Part IV is in my top five favorite games of all time, and I'm glad to see it is getting a much-needed facelift.

Wow:

TV What?

How could I have possibly have missed this? All they need to do now is broadcast live sporting events on the net, and cable/satellite will be dead. It's silly to pay for two services when one can give you everything you need. I haven't purchased a ridiculous TV yet, and I'm not going to. I'll bide my time until computers officially destroy TV, then I'll grab myself a top-of-the-line media system. For now, I think I may pick up a TV Tuner. That way I can hook video games up to my PC.
